CARDOTEK
In clinical field trials with Cardotek-30® Plus, vomiting was observed on rare occasions (1,1% of administered doses) within 24 hours of dosing.
Orally.
• Remove from the blister one chewable tablet at a time.
• Since most dogs find the chewable tablets palatable, they can be offered to the dog by hand.
• They can also be supplied intact in a small amount of food. The chewable tablet should be administered in such a way as to encourage the dog to chew rather than swallow without chewing.
• Chewable tablets should be broken up when given to dogs that normally swallow the medications whole.
CARDOTEK
Dogs: The minimum recommended dose is 6 µg ivermectin and 5 mg pyrantel (as pamoate)/kg bw, at monthly intervals.
• Care must be taken that the entire dose is consumed by the dog, therefore animals should be carefully observed for several minutes after administration to ensure that part of the dose is not lost or rejected.
• If it is suspected that part of the tablet was wasted, redosing is recommended.
• Cardotek-30® Plus should be administered at monthly intervals during the period of the year when mosquitoes, potential vectors of infective heartworm larvae, are active.
• The initial dose should be administered within a month after the dog's first exposure to mosquitoes. The final dose should be administered during the month following the last exposure to mosquitoes.
• The effectiveness of Cardotek-30® Plus will be reduced if the interval between dosing exceeds 30 days. Therefore, for optimum performance, the Cardotek-30® Plus should be administered once a month on or near the same day. If dosing is delayed by either a few or many days, immediate dosing with Cardotek-30® Plus and restarting the recommended treatment schedule will decrease the risk of developing adult heartworms.
• The recommended doses, according to weight, are:
– Up to 11 kg: 1 blue tablet/dog.
– From 12 to 22 kg: 1 green tablet/dog.
– From 23 to 45 kg: 1 brown tablet/dog.
– More than 45 kg: Give the appropriate combination.
• Wide margin of safety at the recommended dose for dogs, including pregnant bitches, breeding animals, and puppies over 6 weeks of age.
CARDOTEK
• Cardotek-30® Plus is not effective against Unforgiving heartworms adults. Although some microfilariae may be killed by the action of the ivermectin component of the product, when used at the recommended doses, it is not effective in eliminating microfilariae.
• Before beginning treatment, all dogs should be examined for the presence of heartworm infestation. Infested dogs should be treated to eliminate adult worms and microfilariae before starting a program with Cardotek-30.® Plus.
• In clinical trials using ivermectin alone, a mild hypersensitive-type reaction accompanied in particular by diarrhea has been observed after treatment of some dogs with circulating microfilariae, presumably due to dead or dying microfilariae.
• The dose of ivermectin in the Cardotek-30® Plus (6 µg/kg) has a wide margin of safety. In the specific case of the Collie breed, this safety margin is 10 times the therapeutic dose.
