ROUND FLAVOR
COMPOSITION enrofloxacin
FLUOROQUINOLONES
Fluoroquinolones are characterized by extensive distribution in fluids and good penetration into body tissues, reaching higher concentrations in some of them than those found in plasma. They are distributed throughout the skin, bone and semen, as well as in the anterior and posterior chamber of the eye; They cross the placenta and the blood-brain barrier. High levels have also been found in phagocytic cells (alveolar macrophages, neutrophils), thus being effective against intracellular microorganisms (eg rickettsia and mycoplasma).
ENROFLOXACIN. MECHANISM OF ACTION.
Enrofloxacin belongs to the class of fluoroquinoles, exerts bactericidal activity via a mechanism that blocks bacterial DNA replication, transcription, and recombination, and is effective against the vast majority of Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria, both aerobic and anaerobic.
Excretion is essentially via the kidneys. Its high concentrations in the urine make this antibiotic ideal for the treatment of urinary tract infections.
INDICATIONS AND DOSAGE IN CALVES AND PIGS.
The injectable solution is indicated for the treatment of respiratory and digestive diseases in calves and pigs and even in the case of Metritis Agalactia Mastitis Syndrome (MMA) in pigs.
-
Calves: 1ml/20kg SC. 2,5 mg of enrofloxacion per kg per day, subcutaneously, for 5 days. No more than 10 ml of solution should be administered per injection site.
-
Pigs: 1ml/20kg IM. 2.5 mg enrofloxacin per kg per day, intramuscularly for 3 days (1 to 2 days for MMA treatment in female pigs). The injection must be applied in the neck musculature, 2.5 ml of solution for each injection site.
INDICATIONS AND DOSAGE IN DOGS AND CATS.
Infections of the Genitourinary Tract (pyelonephritis, cystitis, urethritis, prostatitis, orchitis, endometritis, vaginitis).
This type of infection occurs after contamination of the external genitalia by fecal or cutaneous organisms. Most UTIs involve infection of the lower urinary tract and bladder, however, upper UTIs with renal involvement may arise.
It is also indicated in the treatment of simple or mixed infections of the respiratory and digestive tract, ear infections, skin infections and wounds.
RECOMMENDED DOSAGE.
The recommended dose of enrofloxacin is 5 mg/kg/day, for 5 days. In chronic and/or severe cases, the duration of treatment can be extended up to 10 days.
