Pharmaceutical form:
Intramammary suspension (Susp.m.)
Composition: per syringe:
Cephalexin (benzathine) 375 mg; excipient, csp 8 g.
Pharmacological properties:
Active principle belonging to the group of first generation cephalosporins, characterized by its bactericidal action against: Staphylococcus sp; Streptococcus agalactiae, dysgalactiae and uberis; Corynebacterium sp; Clostridium perfringens; E. coli; Proteus mirabilis and vulgaris; Klebsiella pneumoniae and Pasteurella sp. It resists the action of beta lactamases and diffuses
well throughout the mammary parenchyma. Its action is maintained for 4 weeks thanks to the benzathine salt.
Interactions and incompatibilities:
Antagonism with lincomycin, macrolides, and tetracyclines has been described.
Indications and target species:
Cows: Mastitis.
• Prevention and treatment of bovine mastitis produced by the aforementioned germs, during the drying period.
Contraindications:
• Animals hypersensitive to cephalosporins.
• Animals with a known history of allergy to penicillins should be treated with special care.
Side effects:
In some cases, a moderate irritant effect of the mammary mucosa may occur, observed by cell count, which disappears a few days after treatment.
Route of administration:
intramammary.
• Efforts will be made to thoroughly milk the 4 quarters and later wash them with an antiseptic solution before administering the contents of the syringe through the teat canal.
• Once the product has been applied, gently massage the udder to improve its distribution.
Posology:
Cows: 1 syringe/quarter, in a single dose, after the last milking.
• The treatment must be carried out in the drying period, about 2 months before the expected date of delivery.
• Simultaneously treat the 4 paddocks.
