LABORATORY
BAYER HISPANIA, SL
PHARMACEUTICAL FORM
Spot-on anointing solution (Sol.udp)
COMPOSITION PER PIPETTE:
Imidacloprid 10% and moxidectin 2,5%. Butylhydroxytoluene.
PHARMACOLOGICAL PROPERTIES
Imidacloprid is an ectoparasiticide of the chloronicotinyl group, effective against the larval stages of fleas and adult fleas, with minimal pharmacological activity in mammals. It is quickly distributed on the animal's skin on the first day of application.
Moxidectin is a parasiticide of the milbemycin family (macrocyclic lactone) active against a large number of internal and external parasites, against the larval stages (L3, L4) of Dirofilaria immitis and against gastrointestinal nematodes. It is absorbed through the skin and distributed systemically, reaching peak plasma concentrations in approximately 4 to 9 days in dogs. It is slowly eliminated from the plasma.
INTERACTIONS AND INCOMPATIBILITIES
During treatment with Advocate, no other antiparasitic of the macrocyclic lactone type should be administered.
INDICATIONS AND TARGET SPECIES
Dogs: Treatment and prevention of infestations by fleas (Ctenocephalides felis), treatment of infestation by ear mites (Otodectes cynotis), treatment of circulating microfilariae (Diofilaria immitis). Prevention of heartworm disease (L3/L4 larvae of Dirofilaria immitis), subcutaneous heartworm disease (L3 larvae of Dirofilaria repens), spirocercosis (Spirocerca lupi) and angiostrongylosis (L4 larvae and immature adults of Angiostrongylus vasorum). Reduction of circulating microfilariae (Dirofilaria repens). Treatment of infections by gastrointestinal nematodes (L4 larvae, immature adults and adults of Toxocara canis, Ancylostoma caninum and Uncinaria stenocephala, adults of Toxascaris leonina and Trichuris vulpis). Treatment of infestation by chewing lice (Trichodectes canis), sarcoptic mange (Sarcoptes scabiei var. canis), demodicosis (Demodex canis) and infections by Angiostrongylus vasorum and Crenosoma vulpis. Strategic treatment of the DAPP.
CONTRAINDICATIONS
- Do not use in puppies less than 7 weeks.
- Do not use in case of hypersensitivity to the active substances or any of the excipients.
- Do not use in canaries.
SIDE EFFECTS
Advocate may cause transient itching in the dog.
Rarely, greasy hair, erythema, and vomiting may occur. These symptoms subside without treatment.
On rare occasions, local hypersensitivity reactions may occur.
If the animal licks the application area after treatment, transient neurological signs may rarely be observed.
The medicine has a bitter taste and if the animal licks it it can produce salivation. This effect is not a sign of poisoning and disappears after a few minutes without treatment.
Very rarely, the drug may give rise to a sensation at the point of application that causes transient behavioral disturbances such as lethargy, agitation, or loss of appetite.
