Laboratory
VETERINARY INDUSTRIAL, SA – INVESA
Pharmaceutical form
Injectable solution (Sol.i.)
Composition:
Enrofloxacin 50mg; benzyl alcohol 10 mg.
Pharmacological properties
Enrofloxacin is an antibiotic that belongs to the chemical class of fluoroquinolones. The compound exerts a bactericidal activity through a mechanism of action based on the inhibition of subunit A of bacterial DNA gyrase (Topoisomerase II), preventing negative axial rotation of the DNA molecule.
Enrofloxacin exerts its antimicrobial action at low concentrations, against most Gram (-) and many Gram (+) bacteria, both aerobic and anaerobic.
Antibacterial spectrum: Staphylococcus spp., Bordetella bronchiseptica, Escherichia coli, Enterobacter spp., Proteus spp., Salmonella spp., Pseudomonas spp., Streptococcus spp., pasteurella spp., Mycoplasma spp., Enterococcus spp., Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae. Gram (-) enteric bacilli.
Enrofloxacin has relatively high IM and SC bioavailability in almost all species studied.
In cattle, after IM administration of 5 mg/kg, a maximum concentration of 1 µg/ml is observed, which is maintained for more than 6 h. The volume of distribution is equal to 0,6 l/kg, the plasmatic elimination half-life is equal to 2 h. and clearance equal to 210 ml/kg/h.
Interactions and incompatibilities
• In dogs and cats, antagonistic effects may occur in joint administration with chloramphenicol, macrolides or tetracyclines.
• In dogs, do not use simultaneously with theophylline.
• Do not apply simultaneously with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (convulsions may occur).
• Hepatic interactions may appear with other hepatic elimination drugs.
Indications and target species
Cattle (Calves):
• Respiratory tract infections: bronchopneumonia, pasteurellosis and mycoplasmosis.
• Gastrointestinal tract infections: Diarrhea caused by colibacillus, colibacillosis and colisepticemia.

Dogs: Treatment of infections of the respiratory and digestive organs, of the urinary system and of the skin produced by microorganisms sensitive to enrofloxacin.
• The use of this product must be restricted to those cases in which the bacteria are resistant to other antibiotics; A bacteriological confirmation of the diagnosis and a sensitivity test of the bacteria causing the process will be carried out prior to its use.
• If there is no improvement within three days of starting therapy, a change in the chosen therapy may be indicated.

efectos secundarios
No secondary effects derived from the administration of the specialty in the target species for which it is indicated have been reported. However, like other fluoroquinolones, enrofloxacin has a damaging action on the joints, especially in young animals. Consequently, care must be taken to ensure that the administration of enrofloxacin is adequate, without excessively increasing the dose or treatment time.
• In dogs and calves, gastrointestinal disorders may occasionally occur.
• After administration, the specialty can produce an irritant effect at the injection site, although this disappears spontaneously after 4-5 days.
Route of administration
Intramuscular or subcutaneous.
